There just aren’t enough homes out there to Rent! For many applicants they just want to move, to upgrade, up or downsize or just starting out HOWEVER for some they have no choice, especially now with Landlords selling their investments. Also, those moving to the area are feeling like ‘needles in a haystack’ (quoted yesterday). They are having to pay costly hotels, air bnb or serviced accommodation costs, just to start their new job whilst hoping to find a home. As an agent it is frustrating because you just want to help everyone!
Today I must speak to a landlord whose property attracted just under 100 enquires in 24 hours, after pre-qualifying (taking essential credentials) we sifted for viewings using a very strict criteria based on the house and landlord (not easy when there are so many that all look good). After viewings there are 8 choices for the landlord (all excellent candidates). That means I must let 7 down, all tenants that I would love to have, single professionals, couples, families, with pets without pets all just need a home in our area.
It’s really tough and I want to make a difference; I want to help people find homes; I love this part of my job, but it is really frustrating in the current climate. Can you help to make a difference?
- Do you know a self- managing landlord who is selling because they don’t want the hassle and worry of a rental any more but like the investment. I would be happy to chat to them and maybe help to keep the rental market alive and active for those who rely/choose to rent not buy.
- If you are looking to purchase a Buy to Let property or would like to increase your property portfolio this is certainly the time to be doing it and we can help with this as well, happy to assist your search and/or give you advice on good locations, best returns.
- If you have any friends or contacts in either of the positions above it would be great if you could point them in my direction and as a thank you, you could earn a referral reward in the way of vouchers!
If it helps to focus, this is a simple guide in priority order to what most of our applicants are looking for:
- Monthly rental cost of £750-£1000 per calendar month
- City or outskirts if good public transport links
- 2–3-bedroom home with or without garden
- Preferably with parking even if permit/roadside parking
- A property that might be willing to accept pets (if suitable)
This is a problem right NOW, please do get in touch if you think you can help to find homes for some of these lovely people desperately searching in a crazy marketplace.
